If white background on Windows Explorer hurt your eyes, you can change it. On Decktop go right-click, Properties-Appearance-Advanced. On Drop-down menu go to Item-Window, and chose color what you like. OK-Apply-OK.

For Windows Vista rightclick any empty place on monitor-> Personalize->Windows Colors and Appearance->Open Classic Appearance and Properties...->Advanced-> select "WIndows" and "Color."
